Business Administration

The Business Administration Minor at EIU is designed for students majoring in the liberal arts, sciences, or any non-business field who want to build practical business skills alongside their degree. A five-course core introduces the functional areas of business, and students round it out with two additional business courses of their choosing — giving them a flexible, career-boosting complement to whatever major they're already pursuing.

Why Study Business Administration at EIU?

  • Asynchronous online classes mean no fixed class times — you learn on your own schedule, with clear assignment deadlines and exam windows to keep you on track.
  • The program is fully accredited by AACSB International, a distinction held by only a small share of business schools worldwide — a signal to employers that the education meets a high bar.
  • You'll take upper-division coursework across accounting, finance, management, MIS, marketing, and operations, giving you a well-rounded foundation instead of a narrow lane.
  • Beyond the required core, you choose additional upper-division electives from business ethics, entrepreneurship, or any of the six disciplines — letting you lean into what genuinely interests you.
  • Every class — online or on campus — is taught by the same School of Business faculty teaching on campus, not adjuncts or outsourced instructors.
"I chose to continue my education at Eastern IL University because it was close to home, affordable, and such a welcoming environment. It is a home away from home, from the caring professors to the kind peers on campus. ... I'm so glad that I spent my undergraduate years here, and even more stoked that I'm spending my graduate years here as well."

Hands-On Experience

  • Strategy and Policy (BUS 4360) has students pull everything they've learned — finance, marketing, operations, management — into real strategic decision-making, the way a general manager would.
  • Students without significant relevant work experience are specifically encouraged to complete an internship for credit, turning classroom knowledge into workplace practice.
  • As a capstone experience required of all EIU graduates, it pushes students to synthesize their coursework and prepare for life after graduation.
  • Picking courses across six disciplines functions like a series of mini-immersions into different business functions — helpful for students still deciding where they want to land.
  • The online, self-paced structure itself builds a skill many employers value directly: managing your own deadlines and workload independently.
