English Studies

The English Studies minor lets you mix-and-match courses on language, writing, and literature to customize your program if our other minors don't quite match your interests. If you enjoy English, this minor will let you select the courses that interest you most to sharpen your reading, writing, and research skills. Those skills are desired by employers in lots of fields, so the minor can help you showcase your language skills when you're on the job market after graduation.

Why Study English Studies at EIU?

  • Customize your minor by choosing courses from all our areas of study: creative writing, professional writing, literary studies, and the English language itself
  • Enjoy small, personal classes, taught by PhD faculty who genuinely care about your success
  • A minor in English tells employers that you have strong reading, writing, and critical thinking--skills that are still in demand from real live humans
"I chose to attend EIU because of its small class sizes and quiet community. I had heard great things about the English department and knew I wanted to pursue my degree here."
