Business Analytics

EIU's Business Analytics Minor, open to all majors, teaches students to capture, analyze, and visualize data to drive real business decisions. Through hands-on courses in statistics, spreadsheet modeling, and data mining, students learn descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics techniques — building in-demand skills for careers as business analysts, data analysts, and BI managers, no matter their primary field of study.

Hands-On Experience

  • OSC 3800 has students build and apply spreadsheet models directly to management decision-making scenarios, not just learn formulas in isolation.
  • OSC 4820 puts data mining techniques to work uncovering real patterns — like what drives sales trends or where profitable opportunities might be hiding.
  • Business Statistics (BUS 2810) builds the analytical foundation students then apply throughout the minor's more advanced coursework.
  • BUS 1950 grounds students in the computer applications and tools that show up in real business analytics work, not just theoretical computing concepts.
  • Two elective courses let students steer the minor toward the specific analytics tools or applications most relevant to their intended career path.
