Why Study Journalism at EIU?

  • Cover on-campus and off-campus events and produce stories that educate, entertain and inform your audience.
  • Develop strong writing, reporting, communication, and analytical skills through event coverage, social media posts, and exposure to many different types of stories.
  • Use your coverage experiences to develop a strong story portfolio that will enhance job prospects. Recent graduates now work at such outlets as the Chicago Tribune, the New York Times and the Washington Post.
"I chose to attend EIU as I had previously worked for The Daily Eastern News during my senior year of high school, and Eastern had the major I wanted (journalism). In addition, I live in Charleston, IL so I was able to save money by going to my local university."
