Military Tuition Assistance Waiver
Effective Jan. 1, 2026, EIU implemented the Military Tuition Assistance Waiver Program to support active duty military. This program is a standalone support/financial aid program and cannot be used in combination with other types of financial aid. Specifically, those utilizing IVG or ING benefits are not eligible for this program. Proof of service and eligibility for tuition assistance is required to take advantage of the military tuition and fees program.
The waiver program waives all mandatory fees as well as tuition expenses exceeding the Department of Defense's maximum approved tuition rate. Students will be responsible for course charges and other course-specific expenses, including supplemental educational or consumable materials associated with laboratories, studios, field experiences, and/or required online resources.
Proof is required to take advantage of the military tuition and fees program. Military students can provide any of the following:
- Valid Military ID - Cannot be copied; must be verified in person
- Authorized Tuition Assistance Form - Will be approved for the authorized semester only
- Statement of Service - Must contain all of the following information issued from a personnel office or commanding officer
- Date
- Full name of student
- Branch of service
- Rank
- Date entered service
- Expiration - term of service (ETS)
- Signature, title, and contact information for the waiver recipient
The application form and proof of service must be submitted and authorized by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
