Applying for financial aid at Eastern Illinois University is easier than you might think, and it all starts with the FAFSA!
What is the FAFSA?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is required to be considered for most types of financial aid, including grants, loans, and work study. When you complete the FAFSA, be sure to list Eastern Illinois University using our school code: 001674.
When should I apply?
The FAFSA opens each year for the upcoming academic year. To be considered for the widest range of financial aid opportunities, we recommend completing it as soon as it becomes available.
What do I need to get started?
FAFSA on the Web: The FAFSA is completed online through the federal student aid website.
FSA ID: Both the student and a parent or contributor will need to create an FSA ID with an email address and password in order to sign and submit the FAFSA.
What happens after I submit?
After you file your FAFSA, your information is sent to the EIU Office of Financial Aid. Our team reviews your application and prepares your financial aid offer, which outlines the types and amounts of aid you may receive. Financial aid offers are sent out beginning early in the year and continue on a rolling basis.
What is FAFSA Verification?
Some FAFSA applications are selected for verification by the federal government. If this happens, do not worry. It simply means we need a little more information from you. Instructions and next steps will be provided to help you complete the process.
What if I am planning to take summer classes?
Students who plan to enroll in summer courses may need to complete an additional summer financial aid application. This application becomes available on our website prior to the start of the summer term.
