EIU Board of Trustees

About the Board

Eastern Illinois University is independently governed by its own Board of Trustees, which oversees all aspects of the institution.

Although the Board of Trustees is the primary authority over the university's operations, it embraces shared governance, with faculty, staff and students providing advisory participation.

The board first met in January 1996 after the dissolution of the state's Board of Governors system, which also managed seven other state universities.

Seven of the board's eight members are appointed by the governor to six-year terms. One student representative is elected annually by the student body.

Questions regarding the Board or Board issues should be directed to Jay Gatrell, President, or Cindy Hutchison, office administrator to President Gatrell and assistant secretary to the Board of Trustees.
