- Yes. You must be fully admitted to the political science graduate program before you can be considered for any GA positions or scholarships.
What factors are taken into account for GA decisions?
- Criteria: Highly competitive review of undergraduate GPA, recommendation letters, and personal statements by the full-time teaching faculty.
- GPA Expectations: Typically, only applicants with a 3.5/4.0 GPA or higher are closely considered. Recent GA cohorts averaged GPAs between 3.71 and 3.87.
Can you look at my resume/CV/transcript and tell me my likelihood of receiving a GA?
- No The applicant pool changes each year drastically, making it impossible to predict.
- The odds: Admissions are rising, but GA spots are fixed. Historically, only about 10% of admitted students who applied for a GA received funding.
Do you offer spring or summer assistantships?
- Spring: Very rare, highly unpredictable, and usually awarded on short notice to local candidates with fewer logistical hurdles.
- Spring Drawbacks: Only covers Spring/Summer tuition, only pays for 4.5 months of work, and does not guarantee funding for future semesters.
