Daily Crime Log

The Police Department at Eastern Illinois University is required to create, maintain, and make available an easily understood daily crime log. The daily crime log must include the nature, date, time, general location of each crime that occurs within the institution’s Clery Geography, and the disposition of the complaint, if known. The University Police Department must make the entries available within two business days of the report of the information, unless the disclosure is prohibited by law or would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim. The University Police Department may withhold this information if there is clear and convincing evidence that releasing it would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or safety of the individual, cause the suspect to flee or evade detection, or result in the destruction of evidence. However, UPD must disclose any withheld information once the adverse effect is no longer likely to occur. The University Police Department is required to make the crime log for the most recent 60-day period open to the public inspection during normal business hours and any portion of the log older than sixty days available within two business days of a request for public inspection.

2026-10-07	Theft	Residential Hall	On 10/7/2026 an individual reported that their bedding was taken from the laundry room in Taylor Hall. During the investigation, UPD determined, the items were taken by accident and were located and returned. The case is closed and no charges were filed.
2026-10-04	Theft	Outside Clery Geography	On October 4, 2026, at approximately 8:28 p.m., the Eastern Illinois University Police Department responded to a report of retail theft at Walmart after being requested to assist by the Charleston Police Department. The suspect was issued a Notice to Appear citation for retail theft and released. The case is closed.
2026-10-06	Domestic Battery & Criminal Damage to Property	Noncampus Building or Property	On October 6th, 2026, at 9:48am, UPD assisted the Charleston Police Department on a criminal damage/possible domestic violence situation at an apartment complex adjacent to campus. This turned out to be a dispute between family members, and no crime was to have been committed. The case is closed and was unfounded.
2026-10-08	Theft by Deception	Campus	On October 8, 2026, an individual reported an attempted theft by deception involving an online scam. The attempt was unsuccessful, and no financial loss was reported. The incident remains under investigation.
