Undergraduate International Excellence Award
Undergraduate Students with an incoming GPA of 3.5 - 4.0 receive a special scholarship
rate. Students do not need to maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA to retain a special rate.

LCBAS and Applied Sciences International Merit Award
The Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences International Merit Award is open to newly admitted international students seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree majoring in the areas of business or applied sciences. Awards are competitive and designed to promote cultural exchange and diversity. Awards may be granted on the basis of one or both of the following: academic excellence and personal essay. The scholarship is a one-time award which pays $1500 toward tuition, fees or other expenses for the Fall semester for minimum full-time enrollment in EIU courses. See below for details about eligibility and deadlines.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants Must:
- Be admitted to EIU as full-time, degree-seeking student
- Have a demonstrated record of academic achievement
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 (undergraduate), 3.0 (graduate), as converted to the EIU grading scale
- A new international student with full academic admission to Eastern Illinois University for the semester in which they are applying and a declared major in Business, Technology, or Family Consumer Sciences. For more information about the various majors and options within each School, please visit:
- Demonstrate proof of funding for tuition, living expenses and fees (see financial affidavit form)
- Submit a 500-1000 word essay on “Why I want to study at EIU?” Be sure to include your financial need for the merit award and your future goals.
- Complete the merit award application
*Students are encouraged to apply for the merit award as soon as they are admitted to EIU. The deadline for scholarship applications is May 1 for the Fall Semester.
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed.

The International Student Scholarship was established by the Board of Trustees to assist students from other countries to attend EIU. Awards are competitive and designed to promote cultural exchange and diversity. Awards may be granted on the basis of one or both of the following factors: financial need and academic excellence. The scholarship pays partial tuition for minimum full-time enrollment in on-campus EIU courses. Fees, field trips, continuing education delivery charges, travel, living expenses, and other personal expenses are not covered. Scholarship awards are only granted for two semesters at a time.
The criteria to be eligible for the scholarship are as follows:
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 (undergraduate), and 3.25 (graduate), as converted to the EIU grading scale.
- Full academic admission to a degree program
- Proof of funding for living expenses and fees
Deadlines for scholarship applications are as follows:
- FALL: November 05 at 11:59 PM Central Time.

- Please note that scholarships are competitive.
- Current Graduate Assistants are ineligible to apply for the International Student Scholarship.
- If you are a current recipient of the International Student scholarship, please refer to instructions from OISS for extensions.
- Scholarship applications must be submitted before 11:59 PM to be considered eligible for review.

Carl Koerner Memorial Scholarship
Established by Jack and Bethina Schultz in memory of Carl P. Koerner Jr., who served as a member of the EIU Board of Trustees, the Koerner Scholarship advances the University’s mission of global citizenship. The award is presented annually to an academically talented international student in a degree program at Eastern Illinois University. Required essay: Describe a personal experience that highlights the importance of international education at Eastern Illinois University.(400-500 words)

Eulalee L. Anderson Scholarship
The Eulalee L. Anderson Fund provides scholarships for current EIU international students who excel academically and actively promote international awareness. Established in honor of Eulalee L. Anderson, M.S., EIU Emeritus International Advisor, International Students and Scholars annually selects a student recipient.

Dr. Kenneth E. Hadwiger Foreign Cultures Awards
The Dr. Kenneth E. Hadwiger Foreign Cultures Award was established in 2011. To be eligible, applicants must be a current full-time undergraduate or graduate student accepted to Eastern Illinois University, majoring in Communication Studies. In the event that there is no qualified student majoring in Communication Studies, it is acceptable to make the award to a student enrolled in the College of Arts & Humanities.

Pratima Niranjan Shah Scholarship
The Mrs. Pratima Niranjan Shah Scholarship is given to a current graduate student who exhibits excellent GPA performance, experience with and knowledge of the cultures, politics and religions of Asia.

Wang Tih-Wu Scholarship
Established by Dr. Wang Tih-Wu, an alumnus Eastern Illinois University, the Tih-Wu Scholarship is presented annually to a current international student who demonstrates academic excellence and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
