Your CDS faculty advisor (Dr. Anthony or Dr. Ramrattan) will provide specific and additional information to assist you in registering for classes.
All CDS classes are guaranteed for CDS majors!

4-year Advisement Grid: If you have less than 15 credits from AP/dual credit/community college, this guide prepares you to graduate in 4 years.

3-year Advisement Grid: If you have more than 15 credits from AP/dual credit/community college with strong academic skills, you can consider finishing your bachelor's degree in 3 years at EIU.
- 2.5-year Advisement Grid: If you are transferring to EIU and plan on a SPRING SEMESTER START after 1.5 years at a community college, this plan is for you. It provides opportunities for undergraduate clinic and more case-based assessment and treatment classes before applying to grad school than the 2-year transfer plan.
- 2-year Advisement Grid: If you are a traditional transfer student who has completed an A.A. or A.S. at a community college and will start in the fall term to complete the CDS major in two years, this guide is for you.

Choose an optional minor and electives with your CDS major
Take advantage of flexible minor and elective course options based on your potential career interests! You can build a deliberate pathways to graduate school, enhance and expand your career options and build related knowledge and expertise.
- With a minor in psychology and intentional electives in the psychology minor (e.g., behavior management, abnormal psychology, etc.), you can pursue grad programs for different types of School Support Personnel (Speech-Language Pathologist, School Psychologist, School Counselor).
- Interested in working in the medical setting? A minor in Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Public Health or Nutrition provides a broad understanding of the overlapping employment opportunities.
- Not yet sure which helping profession is right for you? As a CDS major, you can also take pre-requisites and electives to later apply to OT, PT, PA, Dentistry or Medical programs. A CDS major gives you a foundation for working with individuals with communication disorders, which you will very likely treat in a related profession.
- Are you interested in working with young children and their families? Consider a minor in Early Childhood Program Administration or Human Services Program Administration.
- If you want to be a bilingual speech-language pathologist or audiologist, consider a Minor or Double Major in Spanish, French, German, etc.
