Purpose

The purpose of the National Society of Black Engineers(NSBE) at Eastern Illinois University is to build a strong community of Black students who are passionate about excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Our goal is to create a supportive family that empowers members to achieve success academically, professionally, and personally, while making a lasting impact in the world of STEM. 

NSBE was founded to promote the advancement of the Black community across all STEM disciplines and to ensure equal access to opportunities for education, innovation, and leadership. The organization continues to open doors for Black engineers, scientists, and technologists by providing resources, mentorship, and professional development opportunities that help bridge the gap in representation.

Establishing a chapter here at Eastern Illinois University will give students the opportunity to connect with a national network of talented individuals and professionals. Through NSBE, members will gain access to regional and national conferences, resume-building workshops, internship and job opportunities, and leadership training programs. These events not only teach members how to prepare effective resumes and navigate career fairs but also provide direct access to recruiters from top companies who are eager to hire NSBE members.

Ultimately, NSBE at EIU will serve as both a family and a platform, a place where Black students in STEM can find encouragement, mentorship, and inspiration to push boundaries, achieve their goals, and become future leaders who drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
