Community residents are invited to join Eastern Illinois University's students and staff during the coming week for "Christmas Around the World" - two festive gatherings scheduled to take place in the foyer of Old Main.
Guests are welcome to attend either of the two events, the first of which is scheduled to take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, and the second from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.
Parking is available in any university lot (excluding handicapped spaces) after 5 p.m. Guests attending Thursday's "Christmas Around the World" gathering may park in any student/staff lot during the event.
"Christmas Around the World" will showcase four holiday trees, three of which feature decorations made by students of Ashmore, Carl Sandburg, Jefferson, Mark Twain and Williams elementary schools.
The largest of the trees features ornaments and decorations created by Eastern's international students, and is surrounded by flags from various countries.
Both gatherings will also feature international treats and holiday music.
There is no admission charge; however, boxes will be available for those wishing to bring a canned food item(s). All donations will be presented to the local Food Pantry later in the week.
EIU invites all to stop by and enjoy its holiday celebrations.
