The Eastern Illinois University Department of Music will present its traditional historical rendition of the famous King’s College "Service of Lessons and Carols" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.
The free concert, featuring the EIU Concert Choir and Collegium Musicum, will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2206 Fourth St., Charleston.
"Lessons and Carols," adapted from the service performed at King's College in Cambridge, England, since 1918, tells the Christmas story through Bible readings interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols and hymns.
The musicians will perform traditional carols, as well as Buxtehude's "Das Neugeborne Kindelein" and Schütz's "Hodie Christus Natus Est," accompanied by Sinfonia. The ensembles are led by Richard Robert Rossi, conductor.
The concert is sponsored in part by a gift from Christine Gordon.
