Throughout the fall, the Tarble hosted a number of public programs, from artist lectures and performances to free after school programs to yoga and sound bath meditations. Less visible are the ways we collaborate with partners during the hours we are not open to the public.

Over the past few months, the Tarble has hosted the university's Board of Trustees November meeting, a zine-making workshop with EIU's Faculty Development and Innovation Center, a visit from the EIU Child & Family Life Education preschool students, a Tarble/Faculty Co-LAB session, two networking nights with EIU Career Services and TRiO, and numerous visiting classes across multiple disciplines.

THE GALLERIES WILL BE CLOSED FOR EIU’S WINTER BREAK STARTING ON DECEMBER 9, 2023, AND WILL RESUME REGULAR HOURS ON JANUARY 9, 2024.

The public is invited to perform Vespers, a 1969 work by the late experimental composer Alvin Lucier that encourages participatory echolocation across the gallery. The performance will be led by students enrolled in the EIU Pine Honors College’s Exploration Seminar Who Speaks for the Oceans? taught by Jennifer Seas. Supplies will be provided.

Join us for a closing reception to celebrate the exhibition Who Speaks for the Oceans? with a live performance of a commissioned composition by musicians Brad Decker and Jamie V. Ryan in response to Jenny Kendler and Andrew Bearnot’s Whale Bells.
