(Charleston, Illinois) — Eastern Illinois University’s Academy of Lifelong Learning has recently issued its Spring 2020 catalog—available online at https://www.eiu.edu/adulted/all.php.
The Academy’s new catalog details a variety of classes and workshops available to community members who wish to pursue informal and exciting opportunities for non-credit learning. The courses are typically geared toward specific interests or lifestyles, helping participants to more deeply examine areas of current interest or to explore new areas altogether.
For example, Heart Healthy: Shopping & Cooking can aid enrollees in making healthier food decisions. Heart Healthy is a two-part course taught by registered dietician Dr. Melanie Burns, and is free and open to the public with advanced registration.
Other topics range from 3D printing and literature study to floral design, art appreciation, and visits to regional events or local places of interest. A majority of the academy’s events are free; however, some courses or events do require a nominal fee. Community members interested in attending a variety of Academy-based classes may also be interested in purchasing a $45 annual membership, which provides the Academy with funding for future programming and in the distribution of its annual printed catalog. Becoming an Academy member also provides participants with discounts to events with fees.
The academy’s goal is to encourage learning and dialogue and to help individuals advance their abilities to thrive in a modern and technological era.
