“Arts in the Cemetery” to discuss tombstone art and more
(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) will host “Arts in the Cemetery” from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 28 with participants meeting at the Charleston Public Library, located at 712 Sixth Street.
During this event, attendees will listen to a presentation by Kevin and Paul Baumann, who have traveled to different cemeteries internationally. In this presentation, the Baumann brothers will discuss their knowledge of Tombstone Art, and they will lead participants on a tour through Roselawn-Mound Cemetery and Old City Cemetery in the afternoon.
According to the Academy’s catalog description, during these tours, “one just might hear bagpipes in the background and see re-enactments of moments in the life of pioneers who lived long ago.” If rain should occur, participants will meet back in the Charleston Public Library to hear presenter stories about art from those who lived in Coles County years ago.
This event is open to everyone, but registration is required by September 23. To register, call (217) 581- 5114. Registration fees are $10 per person, but participants under age 16 are able to attend for free.
