(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University will sponsor a public forum on the important issues of immigration policy and border security from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m Monday, March 25 in the Buzzard Auditorium in Buzzard Hall, on campus at 600 Lincoln Avenue. The forum will be followed by an audience question-and-answer session and a public reception with refreshments in the foyer outside the auditorium. These events are free and open to the public. This event is organized by the EIU Public Policy Institute (PPI).
EIU President Dr. David Glassman and Provost Dr. Jay Gatrell will open the forum and introduce the principal speakers, including Deputy Majority Leader of the Illinois House of Representatives Arthur Turner, who will offer viewpoints from the perspective of the State; Matthew Davies, deputy director of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Chicago Field Office, who will speak from the perspective of the Federal government; and Hubertus Andrae, police commissioner of Munich, Germany, whose office is directly impacted by the current flow of immigration into the European Union.
Their remarks will be followed by brief responses from an EIU-based panel consisting of Dr. Sace Elder, professor of history and chair of EIU’s history department, Dr. David Melton, professor of technology and graduate coordinator of EIU’s M.S. in technology and M.S. in talent development programs, and Mutombo A. Kabasele, assistant dean of EIU’s International Students and Scholars, which oversees the university’s international student program initiatives.
