EIU student earns exclusive IBA multicultural internship

(Charleston, IL) – Eastern Illinois University student Lydia Shaw was recently selected for an internship position in the Illinois Broadcasting Association’s Multicultural Internship Program. Shaw, a junior from Chicago, is studying communication with a concentration in broadcast news and minoring in public relations at EIU.
The nationally recognized and highly competitive IBA internship program selected only six state finalists to receive paid summer internships this year. According to the IBA website, selected students are “the cream of the crop.” As an IBA intern, Shaw will work in Chicago at the WGN-TV 9 news station while being monitored and mentored by the program’s coordinator. She also will receive a stipend through IBA’s sponsor station.
“This will be a great opportunity for me to learn more about news and provide me with the tools I need to be successful in such a hard-working field,” Shaw said. “Doing it all in my hometown just makes this experience more rewarding.”
Past IBA interns include “ABC-7 News This Morning” anchor Judy Hsu and ABC News correspondent Steve Osunsami.
