EIU’s Jean Cornell Awarded Prestigious Beattie IBEA Scholarship

Eastern Illinois University’s Jean Cornell was awarded the Dora J. Beattie Illinois Business Education Association (IBEA) Scholarship during the 55th IBEA annual fall conference in Springfield. More than 100 business education professionals from high schools, community colleges, and universities across the state attended the event earlier this month.
Cornell is a junior-level student working toward earning a business teaching degree from EIU. As a nontraditional student, she is attending college after having already served in management and ownership positions at a variety of food, retail and merchandise establishments in Central Illinois and Indiana.
Scholarships awards are announced at the annual convention by the IBEA Scholarships Chair Connie Campbell, a retired teacher from Belvidere North High School. The IBEA Scholarship Fund is the beneficiary of two separate estates: Ms. Dora J. Beattie and Dr. Gloria Bousley. The Dora J. Beattie IBEA Scholarship was founded in 2011 and provides funding for outstanding high school and college business students who are actively pursuing business, marketing, and/or computer education careers at Illinois schools. Three undergraduate scholarships of $5,000 each are awarded each year. Thanks to the generosity of the Bousley estate, graduate scholarships are available for Illinois business teachers who are pursuing advanced degrees or additional education/certification.
The IBEA is a professional organization whose members represent educational institutions throughout Illinois.
