National Autism Expert Dr. Gail Richard to Host Sept. 29 Conference at EIU

Eastern Illinois University will host a sold-out fall autism conference from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. Friday, September 29 in the University Ballroom, on campus at 600 Lincoln Avenue in Charleston. There, Dr. Gail Richard will deliver her most recent presentation, titled Update on Autism Spectrum Disorders: Etiology and Intervention Strategies, to some of the region’s most engaged autism educators and awareness activists.
A nationally recognized autism expert, Richard is currently director of EIU’s Autism Center. Prior, she was on EIU’s faculty for 34 years in the communication disorders and sciences department, and spent 14 of those years as department chair. She retired in 2014 with professor emeritus status to serve as director of EIU’s Autism Center, which conducts regional evaluations, consultations and educational workshops. She is the current president of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). In addition to serving on ASHA’s Legislative Council, Richard was named an ASHA Fellow in 2000.
