EIU Media Relations

Eastern Illinois University would like to thank UPD Chief Marisol Gamboa for her dedicated service to EIU, including its students and community. Marisol has accepted a new position outside of Eastern and will depart EIU on September 30, 2026.  

 

After an abbreviated search process, Jeremy Clark has been named the Interim Chief of UPD beginning Monday, October 5, 2026.  

 

Chief Clark comes to UPD most recently from a position in ITS on EIU's Cyber Security team.  Prior to his role with EIU ITS, Jeremy served 23 years as a police officer, primarily with the Mattoon Police Department. Throughout the selection process, Jeremy exhibited a personal and professional love for policing, demonstrated strong leadership experience, showcased an interest in communicating and listening with all levels of the department and University community, and expressed a shared commitment to building on UPD's positive momentum and to helping the department achieve its future goals.
