Professor (Emeritus) Robin Murray, World Languages, and Professor (Emeritus) Joseph Heumann, Communication Studies/Journalism, gave the keynote address to the SERCIA conference in Montepellier, France, titled: "We don't treat Agent Orange Patients in this hospital: Agent Orange Films and the Consequences of Ecocide" on September 2, 2026.
Under the theme “The Environment in English-Language Cinema and Series”, the SERCIA conference invites research engaging with the natural environment as represented in film and television from a variety of perspectives: aesthetics, cultural studies, economics, history and sociology. Topics may include nature and landscapes, environmental justice, ecofeminism, the Anthropocene, the capitalocene, anthropogenic transformations (climate change, pollution, urbanisation), non-human agency and ecologies, as well as the relationship between the natural world and other environments — urban, virtual, and beyond.
