Making a Difference Beyond Campus: Give Back Through Community Service Leave

This past May, members of the EIU Human Resources team were encouraged to take advantage of the University's Paid Community Service Leave benefit by spending time giving back to the Coles County community through volunteer opportunities that were meaningful to them. Amanda Repp, Stacey Atteberry, Danielle Goehner, and Sara Steiskal cleaned up flower beds and planted new flowers at the Kiwanis park on one day, while Alex Thomas, Iris Martinez, and Kasondra Harrell provided love and support to several animals at the Coles County humane shelter another day.

Whether supporting local organizations, serving neighbors, or lending a helping hand, each act of service reflected EIU's commitment to making a positive impact beyond the workplace. We are grateful that Eastern Illinois University supports opportunities that empower employees to strengthen our communities while giving back to causes they care about.

Community Service Leave is more than a benefit, it's an opportunity to make a difference. We encourage all eligible employees to consider using this paid leave to volunteer with an eligible organization of their choice, or work with your department to possibly do something together, as a team. Every act of service, no matter how big or small, has the power to positively impact someone else's life.

We Want to Hear From You!

As we continue to promote volunteerism across campus, we invite you to complete a brief Community Service Leave & Volunteerism Survey. Whether you're already familiar with the benefit or have used Community Service Leave in the past, your feedback will help us better understand awareness of the program and identify ways to encourage employee engagement.

Please take a few moments to complete the survey by Friday, August 7Community Service Leave & Volunteerism Survey
