University Court Break and Closing Information
End of Academic Year Closing
The University Court Apartments Contract ends at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 8, 2026.
The Dining Centers will be consolidated to South Quad Dining on Friday, May 8, 2026.
South Quad Dining will close at 6 p.m.
All students must schedule a checkout date and time with a housing staff member before
leaving for Summer Break. Students will be provided with two types of checkout options when leaving: Office
Checkout or Express Checkout.
Office Checkout: Students who choose this option will have a U. Court staff member come to their apartment
to check them out within checkout hours (M-F between 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). A staff member will then check students out and make them aware of possible fines
or damages. All belongings must be removed from your apartment BEFORE this selected
time. You are also responsible for cleaning your apartment before you leave. To request
this option, students will need to fill out the form found here.
Express Checkout: Students who want the flexibility to check out after hours or do not want to wait
for a staff member to view their apartment can choose this option by filling out the form found here. Please be aware that choosing this option means you will waive the ability to discuss
damages with a staff member. All belongings must be out by 4:00 PM on Friday, May 8, unless you have received approval from University
Court staff. If you choose this option, you must come to the U Court Office to receive
a key envelope before you check out. You will then complete the checklist on the envelope,
put all keys inside, and drop the envelope off at either the U. Court front desk or
key drop box at the U. Court door. You are also responsible for cleaning your apartment
before you leave.
Residents are required to inform housing staff which checkout process they would like to participate in.
If you are graduating and need to request a day's late stay, please fill out the request
to stay form found here. Failure to inform and check out properly results in a $100 improper check-out charge
and a potential $80 lock and mailbox re-core charge. Please check your EIU email
frequently for all updates regarding check-out procedures.
