ASSOCIATE RESIDENT DIRECTOR (ARD) GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS
As a member of Eastern Illinois University Housing and Dining program, you’ll find that our staff philosophy is “work hard and play hard.” The welcoming work environment and our numerous professional development opportunities are some of the reasons we have attracted and continue to attract so many qualified people to EIU. If you find our philosophy and reputation appealing, consider us and apply!
The Position
The ARD is responsible for the shared management, administration, services, and activities in a residential building/complex with the supervision of a full-time staff member. As a member of the professional staff, ARDs assist with the overall quality and efficiency of administrative activities as they relate to University Housing and Dining Services. ARDs are expected to use an approach that balances sound developmental concepts with a managerial philosophy in carrying out assigned duties. On specific occasions, you may be called upon to perform additional duties up to and including the coordination and supervision of specific projects, committees, and/or activities for the department.
This is a required live on-campus position that includes the expectation of eating in our University-operated dining centers to provide policy enforcement within the dining facilities and to promote community development for staff and students. Positions are based on a ten-month appointment with 12-month option. Applicants must be available during some break periods.
Our alumni can be found leading successful careers at universities across the nation as housing directors, admission directors, university vice presidents, and the former president of Eastern Illinois University (EIU). These individuals came to Eastern Illinois University seeking a degree. They left with life-long friendships, the knowledge and skill set that has assisted them in reaching their career objectives, and the ability to say now and forever "I am EIU."
We offer you this opportunity. The only question you need to answer is "are you ready to be EIU?" If so, apply today and we look forward to hearing more about your experiences. We stress the importance of personal involvement with committees and professional and student organizations. You can find our staff members actively participating in housing and student affairs-related professional organizations; advising student organizations like RHA, NRHH, IFC, NPHC, PHC, and other student organizations while enjoying the benefits of their efforts.
Student Housing, Residence Life, Greek Court, Dining Services, and Camps & Conferences, normally considered separate departments at many institutions, fall underneath the umbrella of University Housing & Dining Services at Eastern Illinois University. The department has the unique distinction of being the university's sole provider of student housing, dining, and conference services.
While we are financially responsible for the operation of these areas, the primary responsibility of University Housing & Dining Services involves serving the people who live and dine in our buildings.
Staff members are charged with the role of providing and fostering an on-campus community designed to better allow residents to attain success in their academic and personal goals. This is achieved through listening to student and staff input, by providing residence life programming, furnishing residents with a number of convenient services, and through the teamwork afforded us by combining the aforementioned areas. Our mission statement, core values, and diversity statement guide is in this objective.
