Streaming media, DVDs and other media are valuable tools in instruction because they enrich the learning environment, offer diverse perspectives, support various learning styles, and help develop critical thinking and media literacy skills. As such Booth Library acquires these resources and supports the use of this type of content in EIU courses through the services described below.
Please contact Library Technology Services at 217-581-6091 (videos@eiu.edu) for assistance, or contact your subject librarian.
In accordance with EIU IGP 48.4, DVDs needed for teaching can generally be converted to a streaming format. Streaming versions will only be made available through the University's secure streaming media service. Access to the streaming film should be limited to students enrolled in the course for which the conversion request was made.
If necessary, contact your FDIC Instructional Support and Training Specialist for assistance embedding the streaming content in your course once you have confirmation the conversion has been completed.
Requested items will be delivered to the requestor's mailbox in the department office. The requestor is responsible for returning the item to the library.
The Media Reserves service allows shortened loan periods for items that are needed for a class. Reserve items must be requested by the student. Faculty can choose to allow students to have the item for 1 day, 3 days, or 1 week. The standard loan period is 8 weeks.
